Selection of essential oils available for massage or baths:
- Bergamot - Ideal in times of stress, or depression caused by fatigue. Helps balance the emotions. Refreshing and uplifting. Aids composure in a crisis, soothes anger. Good antiseptic, useful in herpes infections i.e. cold sores. Relieves dry, chapped skin and eczema and psoriasis. Boosts immune system. Also good for oily skin and acne.
- Chamomile - Best choice as an anti-inflammatory balancing oil. Very good for irritated skin and treating menstrual pain and menopausal complaints. Calming and sedative. A gentle oil suitable for children. Soothes anger. Anti-inflammatory and anti-depressant. Pain relieving. Use for insomnia caused by stress.
- Clary Sage - Can be euphoric and sedating oil. Helps restore emotional balance in stressful and tense situations. Relaxes muscles. Regulates hormonal imbalances and helps menstrual
pain. Good for asthma and relieves the anxiety accompanying asthma attacks. Regulates blood pressure. Good skin tonic and
regenerates the cells. Not suitable when pregnant. Do not drink alcohol after massage.
- Geranium - Enhances positivity and humour. Balancing and stabilising, can relax or stimulate dependin on individuals needs. Use for menopause, fluid retention and hormonal imbalance. Stimulates lymphatic system. For acne and oily skin.
- Jasmine - Sensuous and romantic oil. Uplift the mind and spirit. Promotes self-confidence and releases inhibitions. Good in childbirth, and for treating postnatal depression and hormonal imbalances. Should not be used in early stages of pregnancy.
- Lavender - Powerful relaxant for both body and mind. Good for mood swings, fear and depression, calms nerves. Excellent for treating burns ,sunburn, scarring, bruises, headaches, inflammation, coughs and colds. Boosts the immune system. Can be applied directly on the skin. Good room deodoriser and insect
repellent. Not suitable during pregnancy.
- Neroli - Sedative and antidepressant. Good for anxiety and shock. Helps relieve muscle spasms of the smooth muscles. Non-irritant skin tonic. Used in the treatment of fragile or broken skin capillaries.
- Patchouli – Grounding oil. Relieves anxiety and depression. Low dose stimulating, high dose sedating. Diuretic. Good for skin conditions such as acne, eczema. Deodorising.
- Pepper Black – Warming oil. Stimulates and unblocks mental energy. Use for colds, chills, muscular aches, and arthritic complaints. Improves digestion and stimulates appetite. Said to boost red cell production. Use for severe bruising. May irritate the skin. Use only in moderation.
- Rose - Warms and stimulates. Comforting on all levels. conditions including PMT, grief, frigidity and stress.
- Rosemary – Stimulant for the mind and body. Helps with memory recall, apathy and mental fatigue. Respiratory problems, aching muscles and joint pain. Stimulates liver and gall bladder. Used traditionally to stimulate hair growth. Do not use with high blood pressure or epilepsy. Avoid during pregnancy.
- Sandalwood – Elevating. Protects and strengthens. Helps to restore balance, soothing exhausted emotions. For urinary tract infections and skin problems. Moisturises dry and dehydrated skin. Balances dry or oily skin. Aphrodisiac. Acts as a tonic to the immune system.
- Ylang Ylang - Aphrodisiac. Soothes anger and relieves depression and tension. Helps reduce rapid heartbeat. Lowers blood pressure. Stabilises mood swings. PMT. Promotes healthy hair. Use for oily and dry skin. Excessive use may lead to headaches and nausea.
